Pre-Waxing Prep & FAQ

We want you to have the best experience possible and have addressed all the most common questions here, including how to prepare for your wax appointment, what to do if you have a special event coming up, if you are pregnant, on your period, etc. Please review this information fully before scheduling an appointment. NOTE: Rest assured - We uphold the highest level of sanitation. Most all of our service supplies are disposable single-use products including sheets, drape towels, applicator sticks, removal strips & cart sheets. We wear disposable medical latex-free nitrile gloves during every waxing service and all tools are thoroughly cleaned and sterilized. Applicator sticks are NEVER double dipped back into the wax.​

Preparing for Brazilian, Bikini, & Body Waxing 

DO's:
  • Must have AT LEAST 21+ DAYS OF GROWTH from your last shave or trim, or 28+ days from your last wax or sugaring. This will allow the hair to be long enough for wax to grab on to, which will also make the wax experience less painful, reduce break-offs, and give you longer lasting results. 
  • MOISTURIZE. On the day of your appointment, the area to be waxed should be clean and moisturized with a fragrance-free body lotion or oil. This can help reduce skin tenderness and hair breakage.
  • Wear loose clothing. The area getting waxed may be tender and you may even experience some swelling, which is normal. We recommend wearing soft cotton undies. Some synthetic fabrics and lace can increase irritation. 
  • For best results, keep a regular waxing schedule every 4-6 weeks and do not shave, trim, or tweeze between wax appointments.

DO NOT's:
  • Do not trim - the hair won't be too long, but can be too short.
  • Do not exfoliate within 3 days of your waxing appointment.
  • Do not suntan or use a tanning bed for at least 48 hours prior to or after your wax appointment. 
  • Do not get a spray tan before your appointment - it will be faded or removed by the wax. 
  • Do not make an appointment to get waxed if you do not have least 21 days of growth since your last shave, or 28 days since your last wax or sugaring. Everyone thinks their hair grows fast, but trust us, we are the experts and we've never had an exception and we have over 30 years of combined experience. ​

Waxing for special occasions 
We recommend getting waxed at least twice before a special occasion (wedding, vacation, etc) if you have never been waxed before or when trying a new wax. We use the safest and highest quality depilatories available - reactions are rare but still a risk. Allow at least 28 days/4 weeks between the two waxing visits. On the visit right before the event, it is best to schedule the appointment at least 48 hours prior to the event (i.e. if you are getting married Saturday, get waxed no later than Thursday).

Facial Waxing 
Allow at least 2 weeks of no shaving, tweezing, etc. It is ok to have makeup on when getting waxed at Bare Bear. Do not exfoliate, scrub, or use chemical exfoliatiants (like glycolic acid) the area(s) to be waxed within 7 days of your appointment. For best results, keep a regular waxing schedule every 2-3 weeks and do not shave, trim, or tweeze between appointments.

FAQ's:

Can I get waxed while on my period?
Yes! We are accustomed to waxing guests who are menstruating when a tampon, cup, disc, etc is worn during your service to keep the area dry.

Can I get waxed while I'm pregnant?
Yes! We are accustomed to waxing guests through all stages of pregnancy, but do recommend checking with your doctor beforehand to be sure it's right for you. 

Can I wear underwear during a bikini wax?
For a Classic Bikini wax you can go commando, wear your own undies, or you may elect for disposables that we can provide complimentary upon request. Brazilian waxes are performed without undies and a disposable lap drape is provided for your comfort and is removed during the waxing procedure.

Can I use numbing cream?
We do​ not recommend using a numbing cream. If you choose to do so, be sure to 1. follow the instructions on the package and 2. let your Waxing Specialist know.

Other ways to decrease pain sensitivity is to limit stimulants like coffee/caffeine and being hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

Please be advised 
We cannot perform waxing services for you if any of the below apply:
  • If you are taking Accutane, Retin-A/ Renova, blood thinning medication, 
  • If you are sun-burned or have tanned the area to be waxed within 48 hours, 
  • Have had a facial peel or microdermabrasion within 7 days 
  • If you are currently having laser hair removal treatments. Wait until after you have completed the series before you start getting waxed. 

​Must be a female at least 18 years of age to receive any services at Bare Bear Waxing.
