***Please read the entirety of our Pre and Post Waxing info before scheduling an appointment.***
Please be advised: If you are taking Accutane, Retin-A/ Renova, blood thinning medication, or if you are sun-burned, or have had a facial peel or microdermabrasion within 7 days we cannot perform hair removal services as these cause the skin to be too sensitive for waxing. Do not get waxed if you are getting laser hair removal treatments. If the laser treatments are not working well enough, wait until after you have completed the series before you start getting waxed. Tweezing without waxing is available as an alternative to some facial waxing services.
We use Nufree -- the safest, easiest, cleanest and most pain-free option of hair removal. Learn more by visiting our page About Our "Wax".
Body Waxing: Hair growth needs to be at least 1/4" inch long depending on the area and thickness of the hair. Waiting at least 3 weeks after shaving should do the trick. If it's your first time we advise at least 21 days of growth. For best results, keep a regular waxing schedule every 4-5 weeks and do not shave or tweeze between appointments.
Facial Waxing: Allow at least 2 weeks of no shaving, tweezing, or waxing. For best results, keep a regular waxing schedule every 2-3 weeks and do not shave or tweeze between appointments.
For large areas/body services, skin should be clean and hydrated but not greasy from oils or heavy creams. Exfoliate the skin about 3 to 4 days prior to your appointment. We recommend using a dry or wet brush to exfoliate the skin followed by a light moisturizer or coconut oil. (See products we recommend by visiting our online Shop).
Waxing for special occasions (wedding, vacation, etc) : We recommend getting waxed at least twice before a special occasion if you have never been waxed before or have never been waxed using Nufree. Reactions are rare but is still a risk. Allow at least 3 weeks between the two waxing visits. On the visit right before the event, it is best to do it at least 48 hours before (if you are getting married Friday, get waxed no later than Wednesday).
You can get waxed while pregnant or while on your period. We do however recommend having waxing services (particularly large areas/body services) during the first 2 weeks after menstruation to decrease pain sensitivity. If you are menstruating you must wear a menstrual cup or tampon during your service and tuck the string inside the vagina so it is out of the way.
Other ways to decrease pain sensitivity is to minimize salt intake and stimulants like caffeine and increasing anti-inflammatory foods like fruits, lettuces, and veggies. Stay hydrated, drinking plenty of water. (You are adequately hydrated if you urinate regularly every 2-3 hours and the urine is clear or slightly tinted.) Being relaxed is the most effective pain reducer. We like to use Valerian Root* and/or Kava Kava* herbs which can be ingested as a capsule, tea, or liquid extract about 30 minutes to an hour before your waxing service. There are topical numbing creams that some people find helpful (though they do not necessarily work for everyone). Dr Numb (uses Lidocaine) and No Scream Cream (uses Benzocaine) are popular products. *Please note that we do not currently offer/sell any products at the waxing studio except for coconut oil, Finipil, and dry brushes.
For a Classic Bikini wax you can wear your own undies or you may elect for disposables that we provide complimentary upon request. Brazilian Waxing and most Modified Bikini waxes are performed without undies and a towel is provided for your comfort and is removed during the waxing procedure.
