During the first 24-48 hours after waxing your skin may be tender and swollen. Keep it clean, but do not over wash, and keep it protected and moisturized with coconut oil or Finipil lotion.
Avoid excessive heat for 24-48 hours after your waxing service (tanning, saunas, hot baths, exercise, etc.) Avoid swimming and wear loose clothing for a day or so. Don't shave or trim between wax treatments.
Keep your skin protected. One of the best products we have found to use after waxing and that we recommend is simply organic virgin coconut oil. Coconut oil (unrefined) is the only oil that does not trap heat in the skin and actually cools and soothes it. You can even use it on a sunburn. It has naturally occurring anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties that can help assist the healing process as well as minimize breakouts for those prone to them. Best of all it contains no harsh ingredients like preservatives that can cause skin irritation. Plus it has a nice light scent and won't stain your cloths. Our favorite is Nutiva Organic Coconut Oil. Alternatively, Finipil Antiseptic Cream is available for those who prefer a lotion instead of oil. Continue to moisturize your skin daily with a small amount of coconut oil, Finipil lotion, or your favorite unscented light lotion.
Note: To get the most out of your waxing and for best results, exfoliate weekly, moisturize daily, and keep a regular waxing schedule.
After about 5-7 days after your waxing service start exfoliating the skin regularly 1-2 times per week as needed. (Do not over exfoliate). We like using a wet or dry body brush for the body, simple baking soda and water, or a salt or sugar scrub. You can also use a soft nail brush. When using one of these methods, be sure to move in direction of the hair growth. Do not scrub the skin in circles or against the direction of the hair. If you prefer to not use a manual exfoliation method, a serum or moisturizer with glycolic, malic, and/ or kojic acid can be applied daily to which will also help to minimize ingrown hairs and other skin irritations. Products with salicylic acid are not typically useful in preventing ingrown hairs.
Facial waxing should be done every 2 to 3 weeks and body waxing should be done every 4 to 5 weeks. Exfoliate your skin 3-4 days before your next body, bikini, or Brazilian waxing appointment, or 5-7 days before your face or brow wax appointment.
We currently carry and offer body brushes and gloves, coconut oil, and Finipil for you to purchase at our studio. You can pick up some coconut oil and a brush at your local health food store or order online as well. For facial skin care we currently recommend visit our Skin Care page HERE.
